Inspiration

As students with busy schedules, we use tools like Google Calendar to organize all our responsibilities. However, in the past, we have found that Google doesn't offer features that help with prioritization or organization of tasks. You can't color code tasks so that all homework for one class is one color.

What it does

We created a Chrome extension side panel for all the tasks so that they are all centralized instead of scattered across a Google Calendar. You can add tasks to your list and specify the name, due date, estimated completion time, and priority, all of which get added to the database.

How we built it

We built the product using Flask and our Chrome extension.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many challenges while implementing our idea, especially since this was our first Hackathon. We had trouble choosing which database to use; we tried using Django, Firebase, an excel sheet, and Flask. Consequently, we had to restart our code base for each of these software since we were running into errors that we weren't able to fix even with help from a mentor. We ended up using Flask but didn't have much time to create our product since we spent a lot of our time dealing with other softwares.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we ended up making a database using Flask, deployed at least some part of our code, and are submitting our project by the deadline.

What we learned

We have definitely learned a lot over the past day. I think we now have experience starting with many different new softwares and are able to better approach our next hackathon.

What's next for Taskeroni

We would like to implement our other planned features. Since we now have a database to work with, everything else will be much easier. We want to make an algorithm to sort tasks by grade weightage, priority, due date, and difficulty. We also want to color code tasks such that all tasks for one class are the same color and much easier to understand when viewing them on the side panel.
