Inspiration
A few of the developers contracted sickness prior to the conception of TartanHealth, prompting them to create a website which would hold health data for the Carnegie Mellon student body.
What it does
This website takes user recorded information regarding their ailments and stores this data so that it can be represented in informational graphics. Additionally, as we expand our user base, we may be able to give health recommendations depending on trends of sickness and the density of a sickness in a certain location on campus. A larger user base allows us to more accurately determine the real ratio of healthy and ill students.
How we built it
We created a database to record all of the health information given by the users of this website. With this information, we were able to organize it so that it could be represented with graphs that would enhance the user's understanding of their health landscape.
Challenges we ran into
Converting back-end ideas with front-end realities. We were quite ambitious with our plans for what we wanted to implement; however, many of these never came to fruition due to a lack of time. We rationed our time to implement only the most essential features of our website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our website was able to successfully detect Carnegie Mellon students, record their sickness history and present graphs that would display trends informing users of the health situation on campus.
What we learned
No API is free.
What's next for TartanHealth
Improve the website and add more features to give the user a better understanding of health trends.
