Inspiration

Our inspiration came from the stories of isolation and disconnection shared by students at CMU Africa community. We realized there was a significant need for a unified platform to connect students, foster collaboration, and create a sense of belonging across all campuses.

What it does

Tartan Pride is a mobile app that connects CMU students across all campuses, providing a platform for networking, sharing opportunities, collaborating on projects, and participating in community events. It bridges the gap between the campuses and fosters a global CMU community.

How we built it

We built Tartan Pride using a combination of user-centric design and agile development methodologies. We started with extensive research and user surveys to understand the pain points and needs of our target users. Then, we designed a prototype using Figma, incorporating feedback from potential users(students) to refine the design.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was ensuring that the platform met the diverse needs of students from all three campuses. We also encountered difficulties in technical limitations related to integrating different systems already in use at the campuses.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a user-friendly and inclusive platform that genuinely addresses the needs of CMU students. We successfully conducted user research across CMU Africa campus and from alumni, designed an engaging and intuitive app interface, and built a functional prototype in a short period.

What we learned

We learned the importance of listening to our users and adapting our design based on their feedback. We also realized the critical need for collaboration and communication in a project that spans multiple time zones and cultures.

What's next for Tartan Pride

Our next steps include further development, user testing, integrating additional features such as mentorship matching and alumni engagement, and launching a pilot version of the app across all CMU campuses. We aim to continuously improve the platform based on user feedback and expand its reach to include alumni and faculty.
