Inspiration

Many students are busy working with their assignments and thus are not available to rush to a canteen for a meal. But if someone around the canteen is available and is going to about the same place a busy student is working in, s/he might help him/her take the meal.

What it does

This project builds a mobile platform for students to make order for their meals or accept orders from others to offer a convenient help. The client terminal provides users with a bunch of menus of campus restaurants and the users can order their meals on the terminal. The rider terminal seeks for orders for places around them and users can choose to do others a favor by bringing them their meals while they go to the same spots.

How we built it

We used Swift in Xcode for developing an iOS app. We made a tabbed app with basically 2 phases in the UI part, and adopted the Firebase database system to find a way to connect our project to the real campus system.

Challenges we ran into

Swift was brand new to us, so we had to learn nearly all required syntax in Swift. There were also some obstacles in installing and running the Firebase module.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We make meals more convenient, so students could spend less time on their way for meals but more time on their study.

What we learned

We learnt to use Swift to code and develop apps and use Firebase to apply database to the software.

What's next for Tartan Eats

We would also develop the riders phase so the system will be more completed. Moreover, we would design an algorithm to make recommendations for clients on the options of riders and for riders on the options of orders, so it is really just to make convenience for people but not for business or job.
