Inspiration
For the tribe, tars is the IT project we would always wanted to work at. It is open to new technologies, especially blockchain, at its core it is a social responsibility oriented, non-profit project and is intertwined with some of the topics we love and apply in our day-to-day work. Education and gamification.
What it does
1) The hub: https://tarshub.org is basically a crowdfunding platform absolutely out of reach for the fiat world. Our campaign runners get directly funded in cryptocurrencies, we are not playing a middle-man role like crowdfunding platforms before us. It is a community for professionals and artists where they can take a step to make their dreams coming true. Supporters will be rewarded with ETH-based tokens managed by us (or a partner we find later) and perks managed by the campaign runner.
2) The client: As of now, it is pretty bare-bone, but it has two objectives. First, it is a facade for the hub where our users can get notified about the new projects and always find new use-cases for their crypto. Be it charity, a shop to spend it or something entirely else. This is an entirely open source project where we welcome every contribution.
3) The ecosystem: We are planning a gamified educational (d)application ecosystem where users get rewarded in crypto for getting expertise in several domains. More details on this later on.
How I built it
Currently everything is more or less in a prototype status. The idea of tars was born this April while the actual work started in May, but we are constantly dedicating time, passion and resources to make something great.
Challenges I ran into
The knowledge of the team about blockchain-based technologies is quite narrow, but we are learning more and more every day. The biggest challenge ahead of us is funding since we are non-profit and would not like to spend our resources on maintaining a classic company losing money everyday because of legal shortcomings around cryptocurrencies. Also, mass adoption is a pretty big bite but we are determined to do everything necessary.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We think that we have already come far despite the short time-frame and
What I learned
A lot about general and blockchain-based technologies and how you manage a team of dedicated volunteers.
