What it does
Tarheel Traffic is a website that aims to allow students on campus to report conditions like occupancy, noise, and productivity, and then takes that information and lets students know what the conditions are like at a specific location in real time. Currently, we have a simulated dataset that feeds the information for the conditions on the buttons on the home page, a chart displaying the occupancy, and a reporting form.
How we built it
We used a combination of HTML and javascript for the basic structural elements of the website and its functions and used CSS to style it. To create our simulated data set, we used chat GPT.
Challenges we ran into
Connecting our csv data file to the actual website was something we struggled with, and initially, has a bit of a learning curve when using branches on git in order to work on the same project but different files at the same time. We used our resources (like the mentors) in order to learn and improve our project. We learned a lot more about git and the way it works, as well as ways that the 3 languages can interact with each other to modify the same elements.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This has been our first hackathon, so as a team, we are proud to have submitted a project that has some functionality at all. We are proud of our idea regarding its potential use for fellow Tarheels, and also figuring out how to input the graph in our website.
What's next for Tarheel Traffic
We hope to figure out a way to have the database update with the submitted info and have the occupancy rating take an average from the last hour of reports for each location.
