Inspiration

Our developer got this idea when someone showed him a NFC card and he got all of the social media information in one page from the cardholder by tapping it. He said this is the most jaw-dropping moment he has ever had in the past social life. In a traditional way, it would take people several minutes to switch phone numbers and it is super inefficient. We wanna improve the inefficient social life and also get rid of the inconvenience of taking an extra card. That's why we decide to develop an app on Android supporting NFC.

What it does

It brings more fun to our life and makes social way easier and faster. When you meet new people, they could know all of the information about you by just one tap. What's more, our app supports more than one scenario, and you could customize different scenarios/ identities by yourself. Under each scenario, you could choose edit information you wanna share.

How we built it

First we got the idea and draw the basic framework for the whole workflow. Then we recognized our own tasks and worked on that. Brusky is in charge of developing, and Sandy takes UI designing part, Lauren does the pitch part. When we ran into the challenges, we talked together and got a plan B and try our best to submit the best version of our product based on the idea.

Challenges we ran into

Android development is super hard and we could not find one more developer to work on the project. So we only have one developer in our team, even though he's an experienced full-stack developer, it's almost a daunting task for him to develop the brand-new technology within one and half days. We tried our best to try to realize the NFC function between two Android phones but it does not work. And also we could not find two Android phones supporting NFC function to test the program.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

First, we did well in and also worked hard on our own areas. Second, we relied on and collaborated with each other to when we ran into problems. Third, we did not give up and always kept positive towards the hackathon even though the challenges are seemingly daunting.

What we learned

Always try to be a problem-solver but not to expect to eliminate all the problems.

What's next for TapSocial

We would perish the valuable idea and keep trying to realize NFC function and perfect functions of our app. NFC is totally feasible if we have more knowledge and time. Then we try to bring users better "game" experience by designing figures for each scenario just like hero skins when you are playing clash of clans. I believe this app would totally change the current way to socialize with people.
