Inspiration
As a college student, I know many women who feel unsafe walking on campus at night, or walking back to their dorm from work. I hope to make users feel safer
What it does
The purpose of the app is to look like something unsuspicious (a smartphone home screen) so whoever you may be in danger from will not suspect that you are dialing an emergency number.
When you open it up, anyone else will only see a normal home screen. However, you will see the apps labeled underneath with emergency numbers (again customizable to numbers such as 911, campus police, etc.)
After tapping one there will be a 5-10 second grace period where you can put in a password/pin to stop the app from calling the emergency number, after which it will dial the number and emergency services will pick up.
How I built it
We used Android Studio (Java & XML) to build our app.
Challenges I ran into
This is our first time making an android app, and we were also under the pressure of finals being the following week.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We stuck to the project for as long as we could, asked questions, and did a lot of research.
What I learned
We learned so much about XML and using Java with Android Studio.
What's next for TapSafe
We're hoping to finish making the app into a usable product after the academic semester is over.
