Inspiration

I'd built a merge interaction game but didn't feel confident the focused interaction. I thought this would create a great opportunity to dive into what it took to make a straight forward, easy to understand interaction component.

What it does

It uses the input tap screen postition to direct a raycast which then determines if it has hit a target which then explodes with a debris object pool and rewards the player with some points.

How we built it

It was build with Focused Interaction, Local Camera control, Custom Input, Object Pools, and some of my Simple UI public assets, Simple Progress Bar and Simple NumberUp.

Challenges we ran into

It was a challenge simplifying the transition and calls of the focused interaction and local camera. I learned that you can't have tap interaction while also having player movement control which ultimately creates a limitation.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm really happy with how it turned out for a relatively simple asset. It feels impactful and satisfying.

What we learned

I learned that focused interaction and local camera are relatively easy once you understand!

What's next for Tap to Shoot Public Asset

Tapping to interact, in general, is actually pretty powerful. It's easy to see how it could be used on a grander scale.
