Inspiration
We were inspired by those 3 a.m. moments where you remember something so cringy from five years ago that you want to bury yourself alive. We thought — what if there was a button that could help you forget it all? That’s how Tap to Forget was born: a gloriously pointless solution to a universal, deeply personal problem.
What it does
Tap to Forget is a sarcastic, single-page web app that lets users "forget" any memory — bad dates, embarrassing moments, or cringe-worthy conversations. Here’s how it works: Users type (or speak) a memory they'd like to forget. Hit the “Forget Forever” button. The app then displays an absurd animation (e.g., black hole, toilet flush) to simulate permanent deletion. The memory is never actually stored. It’s gone… or is it? Users receive a “Certificate of Forgetfulness” for closure — completely meaningless but beautifully designed.
How we built it
Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript Voice Input: Web Speech API for recording memories to “forget” PDF Generator: jsPDF for downloadable “Forget Certificates” Bolt.new : Used to sarcastically analyze memories before deletion
Challenges we ran into
Getting the animation timing just right for that satisfying fake deletion. Convincing ourselves this wasn’t secretly a productivity app in disguise. Resisting the urge to accidentally make it useful.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Simplicity in code can still result in a fun and engaging experience. You don’t always need to solve real problems to create real laughter.
What we learned
Humor can be a powerful design tool.
What's next for Tap to Forget
Voiceprint Destruction: Let people scream into the mic to forget something with emotion. Global Forget Map: A heatmap of the most “forgotten” words and moments worldwide (funny data viz).
