Tap Tap Boom
My First Game Built with GenAi Assistant
A Holographic Incremental Runner Experience
About Our World
Tap Tap Boom reimagines the endless runner genre through the lens of incremental simulation gameplay, creating a unique hybrid that perfectly embodies mobile-first design principles. As a first-time Meta Horizon Worlds creator who joined MHCP in 2025, I set out to prove that innovative gameplay doesn't require years of experience — just passion, creativity, and the right tools. This world leverages every GenAI feature available — from Creator Assistant for scripting optimization, Environment and Mesh Generation for our futuristic obstacles, Texture Generation for our holographic aesthetics, Skybox Generation for our atmospheric backgrounds, to both SFX and Ambient Audio Generation for our immersive soundscape. Most notably, our embodied NPC guide brings personality and dynamic storytelling to what could have been a simple runner.
The game transforms the traditional endless runner into an incremental experience where every run contributes to permanent progression. Players accumulate two currencies — coins for immediate upgrades and gems for premium unlocks — creating the resource generation loop essential to incremental games. Our automation features include passive income generation between runs, automatic collection bonuses, and upgrade systems that exponentially increase your earning potential. The prestige system allows players to reset their progress for powerful meta-currencies, encouraging the replayability that defines great incremental games.
Technical Excellence
Our technical implementation showcases advanced TypeScript architecture with zero runtime allocations after initialization, maintaining consistent 60 FPS on mobile devices through aggressive object pooling and optimized update patterns. The spawning system uses intelligent lane management with predictive collision prevention, ensuring fair but challenging gameplay. Our platform detection system automatically optimizes for VR, mobile, or desktop, adjusting visual fidelity and input methods seamlessly. The game features frame-independent physics calculations, ensuring consistent gameplay across all devices regardless of performance variations. Every system communicates through efficient event broadcasting, creating a modular architecture that's both performant and maintainable.
Visuals and Sound Design
The holographic command interface theme permeates every visual element, from the translucent blue menu panels with animated scan lines to the dynamic warning systems that glow and pulse with danger. Our art direction prioritizes clarity on small screens through high-contrast neon colors against dark backgrounds, ensuring every obstacle, collectible, and UI element remains visible even on the smallest mobile devices. The parallax background system creates depth through multiple scrolling layers, each moving at carefully tuned speeds to create the illusion of vast futuristic cityscapes rushing by. Particle effects for collections, deaths, and special events add visual flair without compromising performance.
The audio landscape combines GenAI-generated sound effects with carefully crafted audio cues that provide essential gameplay feedback. Warning klaxons alert players to incoming rockets, collection chimes create satisfying feedback loops, and our dynamic soundtrack intensifies as difficulty increases. Every button press, menu transition, and game event has associated audio, creating an immersive experience that works equally well on mobile speakers or headphones. The spatial audio system ensures sounds originate from their visual sources, maintaining immersion even in our 2.5D perspective.
Experience Design
From the moment players enter our world, they're greeted by a full-screen holographic interface that immediately establishes our futuristic theme while providing clear, touch-optimized navigation. The onboarding happens organically — players can start playing within seconds, learning through doing rather than reading tutorials. Our progressive difficulty curve ensures new players feel successful while experienced players face genuine challenges. The game respects players' time with 2–5 minute sessions that feel complete and satisfying, perfect for mobile gaming habits.
The user journey is carefully crafted: enter world → see impressive holographic menu → tap giant "INITIALIZE" button → immediately playing → collecting coins → dodging obstacles → earning rewards → upgrading abilities → prestiging for meta-progression. Each step flows naturally into the next, with no confusion about objectives or controls. The death sequence provides closure with comprehensive stats, while the upgrade shop creates anticipation for the next run. Every UI element is sized for thumbs, positioned for one-handed play, and provides haptic feedback on compatible devices.
Social Features
While primarily a single-player experience, our social features create meaningful connections between players. The global leaderboard system lets players compete asynchronously, seeing friends' best distances marked as ghostly holographic markers during runs. Our dynamic NPC companion comments on friends' scores, creating friendly competition through contextual dialogue. The spectator mode allows multiple players to watch and cheer, with special visual effects triggered by audience reactions. Achievement sharing generates automatic clips of impressive moments, formatted perfectly for social media sharing.
Players can gift currencies to friends, helping newcomers get started or contributing to shared progression goals. Weekly challenges unite the community around common objectives, with rewards scaling based on collective participation. The prestige system includes social milestones — showing off your reset count becomes a badge of dedication. Custom avatar and equipment loadouts let players express personality, with rare cosmetics becoming conversation starters. Even our world's lobby area encourages social gathering with interactive elements and hidden secrets to discover together.
GenAI Usage
Every GenAI feature enhances our world meaningfully. Creator Assistant helped optimize our complex spawning algorithms and Custom UI animations. Environment Generation created our futuristic obstacle variants and collectible models with consistent aesthetic. Mesh Generation produced our unique rocket designs and warning indicators. Texture Generation gave everything our signature holographic look with animated scan lines and glowing edges. Skybox Generation creates our atmospheric backgrounds that shift from dawn to dusk based on progression. SFX Audio Generation provided unique sounds for every action, from coin collection to explosion effects. Ambient Audio Generation creates our adaptive soundtrack that responds to gameplay intensity.
Most impressively, our NPC guide showcases embodied AI at its finest — a sarcastic yet supportive character who remembers your progress, comments on your performance with contextual humor, and reveals backstory through natural conversation. They'll mock you for dying to the same obstacle repeatedly, celebrate when you beat your record, and provide genuine tactical advice based on your playstyle. This isn't just a tutorial bot; it's a companion whose personality makes solo play feel social.
Award Category Highlights
Fun in 20 Seconds
Players literally start running within 3 seconds of entering — tap the massive "INITIALIZE" button and you're instantly dodging obstacles and collecting coins. No tutorials, no complex menus, no confusion. The controls are intuitive: touch anywhere to activate thrusters. The first coin collection triggers satisfying audio-visual feedback that immediately communicates success. Within 20 seconds, players have collected coins, dodged obstacles, and understood the entire gameplay loop. The holographic UI provides all necessary information without overwhelming, using icons and animations rather than text. Even the death sequence is instant gratification — showing scores, unlocks, and progress toward next rewards.
Best Use of Custom UI
Our Custom UI isn't just functional; it's transformative. The full-screen holographic interface replaces Horizon's standard menus entirely, creating unprecedented immersion from entry. Every panel uses translucent materials with animated scan lines, creating living interfaces that pulse with energy. The in-game HUD dynamically adjusts opacity based on action intensity, fading during calm moments and brightening during danger. Lane-specific warning indicators use predictive visualization — showing not just that danger approaches, but exactly where and when. The upgrade shop features 3D previews of equipment floating in holographic displays. Our game-over screen transforms defeat into spectacle with cascading statistics and particle effects. The technical readouts (FPS counter, ping monitor, power levels) aren't just decoration — they respond to actual game state, creating a meta-layer of information for engaged players.
Most Memorable NPC Implementation
"NeuTonn" isn't just an NPC — they're your holographic AI companion with more personality than most human teammates. Starting sarcastically ("Oh great, another runner who thinks they're special"), they warm up based on your performance, eventually becoming your biggest cheerleader. They remember everything: your favorite equipment, your nemesis obstacles, your best runs. Their comments are contextually generated — die three times to the same rocket and they'll say "Maybe try the OTHER lane this time?" Beat your record and they'll reference your previous best: "Ha! Told you that you had it in you! 14 meters better than last Tuesday!" The character reveals backstory through gameplay — learn they're a former runner themselves, retired after "the incident" they'll only discuss after you've prestiged. Their idle animations, facial expressions, and voice modulation create genuine personality that players remember long after playing.
Can't Put It Down Award
The incremental progression ensures there's always "just one more upgrade" within reach. Our exponential growth curves are carefully tuned — each upgrade feels impactful without breaking balance. The prestige system adds meta-progression layers: reset your progress for quantum cores that provide permanent multipliers. Daily challenges refresh at optimal times for player retention. The equipment system features 20+ equipment pieces across 5 rarity tiers, from the nostalgic "Retro Rocket Pack" to the legendary "Quantum Displacer" that phases through obstacles. Rare "Prismatic Gems" drop randomly, creating exciting moments of unexpected reward. The achievement system includes both skill-based and progression-based goals, ensuring multiple paths to satisfaction. Hidden secrets and easter eggs reward exploration between runs. The adaptive difficulty ensures the game remains challenging but fair — deaths feel like player mistakes, not unfair design. Session length perfectly fits mobile habits while the progression system ensures every second contributes to long-term goals.
New to Horizon Mobile Award
As someone who joined MHCP in January 2025, this represents my first published world — proving that newcomers can create competitive experiences through dedication and smart use of available tools. Learning TypeScript, understanding Horizon's component system, and mastering Custom UI in just weeks demonstrates the platform's accessibility when paired with determination. Every challenge became a learning opportunity: mobile camera differences taught platform-specific optimization, TypeScript compilation errors led to deeper API understanding, and performance constraints inspired creative solutions. This world proves that fresh perspectives can innovate within established genres.
Genre Fit: Incremental Simulation
Tap Tap Boom perfectly embodies incremental simulation design. Our simple core interaction — tap to thrust — generates resources through active play. The resource generation system accumulates coins even between runs through offline progression calculations. Upgrades and automation include auto-collectors, multiplier boosts, and passive income generators that exponentially increase earning potential. The prestige system offers meaningful resets with meta-currency rewards. Our layered systems interconnect: equipment affects currency generation, which unlocks automation, which enables prestiging, which unlocks new equipment tiers.
The minimalistic UI prioritizes clarity with large buttons and clear progression indicators optimized for mobile touch. Progress feedback celebrates every milestone through particle effects, sound cues, and NPC commentary. The game balances active and idle play — manual runs earn more, but passive accumulation ensures progress always continues. Short and long sessions are both rewarding: quick check-ins collect idle earnings while extended play sessions chase high scores. The exponential progression creates satisfying number growth without becoming overwhelming through careful soft-cap implementation.
Future Development
Post-competition updates will include clan systems for collaborative progression, weekly tournaments with exclusive rewards, procedurally generated challenge modes, and expanded NPC storylines with branching narratives.
