Inspiration: I am from non-dev background but I had always asked myself why can't I build something, some piece of software. I get overwhelmed just by imagining at what level of depth developers go to build amazing products, services I see. So I decided myself to take upon hackathon challenges to ATTEMPT to build real-life. I wanted the game to be mix of puzzle and word game, but couldn't think of just word game so decided to form sentences out of scrambled words.
This is a Word games Category
What it does: The Game challenges player to form sentence from scrambled words. Will offer variations.
How I built it: In such a limited time, limited understanding of Reddit ecosystem, dev ecosystem. I Basically took help from free LLMs to understand app structure and tried to build around it. But I was too bad at it. But managed to make basic functional game prototype.
Challenges we ran into: I ran into the most silliest issues right from setting Devvit environment, Even after opening reference source code published by Reddit team in VSCode, I couldn't get around. And those red lines everywhere when I started new project were such a mess. I didn't know about hackathons at all, just 5-10 days back I came to know of this hackhaton and I tried my best to secure seat in submission.
Accomplishments that I am proud of: Given the time constraints of a week, not able to sit working on this project, but still tackling everything, I was able to successfully run my own TangleMeButWhy reddit game!
What I have learned: Oh, many things beginner! I don't even know python, no programming language; but grasping understanding, logic.
What's next for TangleMeButWhy: I still need to continue coding, because my project is far from being complete, its just the beginning. I am going to pursue completing all the things I decided for this game. Feature such as integrating LLM, Gemini or ChatGPT for generating new sentences, based on users level, also generating humorous reason to increase user engagement on the game post.
