Inspiration

The idea for Aggineer DO came from a recent meeting with my academic advisor. He recommended that I make a weekly calendar to organize my schedule, but I found the process inconvenient. When we discussed course selection, I also realized how many degree requirements and rules I didn’t know about. It was hard to keep track of everything and understand how my choices fit together. We built Aggineer DO to make that process easier by bringing a personal calendar and degree planning into one place, helping students see what they need to do this week and what they still need for graduation.

What it does

Aggineer DO is a tool for students to track both their weekly and degree plans all in one website.

How we built it

We built the UI with Figma, using Vite, tsx, html, and css. The collecting, storing, and displaying of variables was done through tsx on the frontend, while the value handling was done on the backend with json and python.

Challenges we ran into

As soon as we started programming, we were unsure where to begin coding. We ultimately decided to go create the JSON structures for the TAMU credits because we were able to pinpoint that as an essential first step for our project. We also ran into a problem of how to format the JSON, but we ultimately found a rhythm to follow for the JSONs, and stuck through with it. When we started coding the logic handling, there were constant communication issues between the frontend and the backend, but we persevered and finished the project as we envisioned it from the start.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of pushing ourselves to work ourselves throughout a whole day and not getting off-track during our worktimes. For a first-time experience in a hackathon, we're proud of how far we got and how dedicated we were willing to be despite the challenges we faced.

What we learned

We learned almost everything along the way, especially how to efficiently hand off tasks to AI. Throughout the 24 hours, you could gradually see our token efficiency going up and up as we moved on from longer, small chats and instead made short, meaningful requests. Furthermore, we now know how to handle problems efficiently as a team rather than splitting off work as individuals, which definitely made a change in how fast we were woking.

What's next for Aggineer DO

For Aggineer DO, we want to continue adding new majors outside of the current, offered majors, like Business or Biology, because regardless of major, we learned that the degree plan is bound to be confusing for every major.
