Inspiration
As students at Texas A&M University that bring their own lunch every day, we noticed how hard it is to find microwaves on campus. We wanted to create a centralized hub where we can find not just microwaves, but also vending machines on campus.
What it does
The website shows a campus map with locations for microwaves, vending machines, lost and founds, printers, etc
How we built it
We built it with Grok and Cursor subscriptions that MLH provided. I used Grok Bot to ask for help with the front-end development while still giving a revision to its back-end work. Grok Bot combined with Cursor made creating a dashboard/website from the information we collected much simpler and efficient. The actual information was collected by on-site campus surveying by going to different buildings and finding the amenities. Additional support/information was found through online sources such as Reddit or official Texas A&M University websites.
Challenges we ran into
Since we surveyed the buildings over the weekend, some of them were locked, therefore we had to rely on internet sources or asking other students on campus. However, we were able to survey in person most buildings. Grok also helped solve any issues or challenges we encountered in the development of the website and also connecting it to GitHub and Cursor.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to create a tool that can help students with every day issues that my team had encountered in our first years of college.
What we learned
We learned how to better use AI to create tools and projects that can help the every day student.
What's next for TAMU Campus Amenities
We hope to launch it into a full working website that can be actually used by students at Texas A&M with hopefully more buildings and more amenities added in the future.
