Inspiration

Planning often feels overwhelming: a blank calendar, tiny boxes, and a long list of things to fit into an already busy life. I never could sit myself down and plan out a schedule. So that why I wanted to make planning feel more visual, playful, and human.

What it does

Tamie is a visual planning app for building weekly schedules, trip itineraries, reusable templates, and one-time events. Users create colorful activity blocks with a name and duration, then drag them from a playful factory workspace onto a schedule where they snap into time slots. Plans can be saved, exported as PDFs, and sent to Google Calendar or Outlook. Tamie also includes community designs for inspiration and collectible dispenser “Shells” that personalize the planning experience.

How we built it

We built Tamie with React, TypeScript, Vite, and Tailwind CSS. The interactive factory workspace uses Matter.js physics to make newly created schedule blocks feel tangible before they are placed on the calendar. We used Supabase for authentication and persistent schedules, templates, preferences, and user profiles. We integrated Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook export flows, and used html2canvas and jsPDF for PDF exports.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was making a playful physics-based workspace work smoothly alongside a precise scheduling interface. Blocks need to feel fun and dynamic in the factory, but still land accurately in 15-minute schedule slots. We also had to handle different planning modes weekly schedules, date-based itineraries, templates, and one-time events without making the experience confusing. Calendar integrations and saving user data added another layer of complexity, especially around authentication.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that Tamie is more than a calendar redesign. It gives planning a distinct interaction model: users physically create, move, and arrange their time. We are especially proud of: The factory-to-calendar interaction, powered by real physics. Flexible weekly schedules and trip itineraries. PDF export and Google/Outlook calendar support. A playful visual identity that still fills a practical real-world need.

What we learned

I got to design this project with a level of detail I never have done before and it really opened my me to finding creative ways to solve issues.

What's next for Tamie

Next, we want to make Tamie even more useful in everyday life through features like calendar import and sync, smarter conflict warnings, drag-to-resize blocks. We also want to expand the social and personal side of the product with more community templates, shareable schedules, improved mobile support, and additional Shells and themes.
