Inspiration
One of our teammates bought an Apple Watch in Brighton yesterday so we thought we'd make a Tamagotchi-style game to emotionally manipulate her to get her steps in.
What it does
It is an Apple Watch app that tracks your steps to make sure you hit your step goal each day and drink enough water. If you don't hit the minimum step goal of 6,000 then your pet will get eaten. Naturally, you also have to look after your pet by playing with it and petting it otherwise it will get depressed and die.
How we built it
We built it with Swift (evil) All artwork was created using Pixelart.com. Link for full art below https://www.pixilart.com/cherrymatcha/gallery
Challenges we ran into
We decided to make an Apple Watch app and 1/2 of the developers on our team does not own a Mac. So we set up a Mac VM from the other's person's laptop and connected to it using a VNC viewer. This did not work very well. Every five minutes, the connection would crash and the VNC viewer would have to be restarted but we didn't have a better option.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have a working product and nice art for the pet (which was all done with a trackpad) which you can grow an emotional attachment to :D
What we learned
- Don't decide to work on an iOS project when half of your developers don't own a Mac...
- Maybe plan what we're doing in advance so our teammate doesn't have to draw with a trackpad when she could have brought her iPad instead.
What's next for Tamawatchi
A protein tracker so that your pet can stay buff.
