TamaStudy

Inspiration

We realised our attention spans were very limited and our assignments had been piling up. So our team wanted to create a little study buddy to help us stay focused on our tasks, which is why we created TamaStudy! Inspired by the popular Japanese game Tamagotchi.

What it does

It helps you manage and complete your tasks. When the user completes a task, they receive points for it and with these points they can feed their pet. If they don’t complete their assignments on time, their pet dies. :(

How we built it

We used our beginner coding knowledge, and talking to the mentors at the venue helped us a lot. When we ran into errors, we also watched YouTube videos.

Challenges we ran into

One of the challenges we ran into is trying to figure out how to animate the pet when an action was performed on it, like feeding or dying. We had issues getting the leaderboard to work and a way to make the pomodoro timer work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our biggest accomplishment would be bringing our vision to life, although our knowledge was very limited. We ran into multiple challenges, but working together and figuring out any bugs we had was also an accomplishment. Another thing we’re proud of is that we enhanced our coding skills by working together.

What we learned

We learned how to work under time constraints and under pressure, as no one in our team has ever participated in a hackathon, so everyone learned how to work on different components synchronously so they form a cohesive product.

What's next for TamaStudy

In the future, we want to figure out how to sync Canvas tasks with our website so that users can keep track of their studies and deadlines. We would also like to add customization options, including different pets like cats, bunnies, and capybaras, as well as seasonal themes.
