Inspiration
Tamagatichi Wordle (since you can only play once a day) https://www.footprintcalculator.org/home/en
We made a game/exercise + carbon footprint tracker that has a pet that is affected by the choices you make in real life
The game cycles each day with previous action affecting your pet the next day. We intended to add a feature where you can raise your pet from birth and keep them till they die. This would restart the life cycle of your pet with some upgrades you can add to make them cuter. You can have multiple.
What it does
You can input your daily activities in the game (like foods eaten, exercise done etc.) to keep your pets healthy. If one of the pet’s stats (health, exercise, energy, hunger) reaches zero or the pet's environment becomes too polluted, it dies and another one takes its place.
How we built it
Our project is composed of a design spec and a short proof of concept. The design spec was created using figma, and the proof of concept was written in python using the pygame library.
Challenges we ran into
Creating a thought out api contract, which led to us to retrace over our steps and think of multiple ways to solve the same problem Time and priority management Using a new and unfamiliar library (pygame)
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Cool sprites Fish pet Encouraging a healthy lifestyle
What we learned
We gained a greater appreciation for time management and setting priorities. We also learned how to make cool sprites and gifs for our project. This might come in handy later on as making art is a very important skill to have for designing apps that are made for the public.
What's next for Tamaearth Pet
Currently, our project encourages users to foster a sustainable lifestyle. We believe that the game-ification of good lifestyle choices is very powerful, and hope to incorporate more features that help build good habits. Next steps may include polishing up the current demo, or implementing customizable status bars
