Motivation
The motivation behind Talkneum is simple: centralized chat platforms often suffer from issues like censorship, data breaches, and high costs. We wanted to create a solution that empowers users with decentralized, transparent, and secure communication. That’s why we built Talkneum as a browser extension powered by Web3 and the Electroneum blockchain.
Why an Extension?
The extension is the heart of Talkneum because it solves a critical problem: fragmentation. Today, every website has its own chat system, if it has one at all. This creates a disjointed experience for users. With Talkneum, we’re bringing universal chat functionality to the web. By injecting a chat interface into any website, we create a seamless experience where users can connect with others in real time, no matter where they are. Whether on a blog, an e-commerce site, or a news platform, Talkneum lets you chat effortlessly without switching apps or platforms. It’s chat everywhere.
Key Features
- Universal Accessibility: Works on any website, creating a unified chat experience.
- Decentralization: Messages are stored on the blockchain, ensuring transparency and censorship resistance.
- Security: Electroneum’s IBFT consensus mechanism ensures that your conversations are secure and tamper-proof.
How it works
Talkneum connects to the Electroneum blockchain via MetaMask when you visit a website. All messages are stored on-chain using a smart contract. When you send a message, it’s posted to the blockchain, and the NewMessage event triggers a real-time update in the UI. The chat room is specific to the website’s hostname, so you can converse uniquely on every site you visit. The smart contract also handles user-profiles and moderation. For example, admins can ban users or delete inappropriate messages, ensuring a safe environment.
