We first began thinking about an interactive Oski after recognizing the significant number of people living with visual impairments, both within our campus community and beyond. There are over 285 million people globally who are visually impaired, according to the World Health Organization. A large portion of these individuals face challenges in accessing real-time information, navigating public spaces, and participating in daily activities that many of us take for granted. This realization became the catalyst for developing a system that could bridge this accessibility gap, starting right here on our own campus with the beloved Berkeley mascot, Oski.
