Inspiration
If you've ever experienced online dating, it gets very old very quick talking about the same "first date" topics (family, occupation, hobbies). Instead, if a bot could automate this work, and notify us after someone has gotten past this threshold, we could start more conversations with more people, without the feeling of deja-vu.
What it does
There's a common pattern of questions to ask when you want to get to know someone. By filling in a conversation instance about common topics like occupation, family, what you do for fun, and etc Text4me gets the pleasantries out of the way and lets you jump straight into the interesting bits of the conversation.
How I built it
We built it using Python and Javascript. For API's we are using PubNub and IBM Watson.
Challenges I ran into
We ran into a bunch of challenges getting all our services to talk to each other, and to create an infrustructure that is expandable.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
This is a real live working app that anyone can use. We think it's a great idea.
What I learned
Interesting to see exactly how these chat-bots are working. We know what their advantages as well as the limitations they have.
What's next for Talk4Me
Depending on the popularity, we would love to integrate with popular dating apps and Facebook Messenger. Also, we want to improve the IBM Watson chat bot.
