Inspiration

I was instantly inspired by Heather's brief on the Shipaton page, because I am a woman in my late 30s navigating leadership for the first time. Heater's challenge gave me the validation I needed to start building this app that I already had in the back of my head as a concept.

What it does

KindTake is a flight simulator for hard workplace conversations. It allows you to pick a scenario with a persona and have a 'real enough' conversation. This 1-on-1, real time voice practice lets the user test their conversational skills, try on new takes on strategies and eventually gain the confidence to lead with their authentic voice.

How we built it

I used Antigravity IDE for building the backend, Figma for designing the UI and UX and occasionally Bitrig for iOS specific tasks. I used ElevenLabs agents for voices and real time conversations and Apple's on device foundation models for analyzing these conversations. I build the paywall using RevenueCat.

Challenges we ran into

Since this was my first time working with it, initial connection to ElevenLabs took a while to figure out. Following the exquisite documentation provided, I was able to set it up on day 3. I spent a lot of time picking the right voice for the right persona and sentiment. The 'realness' of the conversation was the number one goal I had put for myself, so I ran a lot of in person conversation tests, to actually use these scenarios, tweak them and analyze the results.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was my first time shipping a product entirely on my own and I am very proud that I was able to create this app from zero to publish, solo in under 3 weeks.

What we learned

I had the opportunity test and evaluate a range of products to help me build this project. While the opportunities and capabilities of these tools are immense and infinitely growing, I think the key insight comes from learning when and where to utilize them. The reason I was able to ship KindTake during the last month of Shipaton is because I spent most of my time researching my tech stack ahead of time and I knew exactly where to manually iterate and where to automate.

What's next for KindTake: Leadership Flight Simulator

KindTake is now live on the AppStore and I am currently working on its GTM. I am hoping to see traction that will give me the green light to work on the contents of it even more: creating more custom scenarios and personas with more methods and knowledge from inspiring leaders and coaches like Heather.
