Inspiration 🌟
Creative writing is hard. Like really REALLY hard. Trying to come up with a fresh story can seem very intimidating, and if given a blank page, most people would probably just ponder endlessly... "where do I even start???"
What it does 📕
Introducing TaleTeller, an interactive gamified experience designed to help young storytellers create their own unique short stories. It utilizes a "mad libs" style game format where players input five words to inspire the start of their story. The AI will incorporate these words into the narrative, guiding the direction of the tale. Players continue the tale by filling in blanks with words of their choice, actively shaping the story as it unfolds. It's an engaging experience that encourages creativity and fosters a love for storytelling.
How we built it 🔧
TaleTeller utilizes the Unity Game Engine for its immersive storytelling experience. The AI responses are powered by OpenAI's GPT4-Turbo API while story images are created using OpenAI's DALL-E. The aesthetic UI of the project includes a mix of open course and custom 2D assets.
Challenges we ran into 🏁
One of the main challenges we faced was fine-tuning the AI to generate cohesive and engaging storylines based on the player's input (prompt engineering is harder than it seems!). We also had a lot of trouble trying to integrate DALL-E within Unity, but after much blood, sweat, and tears, we got the job done :)
Accomplishments that we're proud of 👏
- Having tons of fun creating fully fledged stories with the AI
- Getting both GPT and DALL-E to work in Unity (it actually took forever...)
- Our ✨ gorgeous ✨ UI
What we learned 🔍
- How to prompt engineer GPT to give us consistent responses
- How to integrate APIs in Unity
- C# is Tony's mortal enemy
What's next for TaleTeller 📈
Training an AI Text-to-Speech to read out the story in the voice of Morgan Freeman 😂
