Inspiration
It is now recruiting season, and many students are encountering problems with their resumes, cover letters and portfolios, desperately seeking consultations from industry professionals and their peers in order to effectively showcase their achievements and appear their best for their prospective employers especially during career fairs.
What it does
This app is specifically designed to solve the desperate recruitment problems these students are facing, as it provides an interactive platform for students to exchange and review project ideas, cover letters and resumes to maximize their application potential.
How we built it
We mainly used Java and Android studio to build the front-end and Google Firebase for the back-end.
Challenges we ran into
- Displaying the PDF for the resume
- Building the server for data storage
- Debugging
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to integrate the commenting and resume and portfolio display features for our app, which is what sets this professional networking app apart from other similar ones.
What we learned
We learned to code efficiently and effectively as a group, as this is not an ordinary skill that is taught in most CS classes. In fact, this is our first experience programming in large group of more than 4 individuals.
What's next for Talent Cloud
We would want to run a pilot program in UCSD colleges by encouraging students to try our app before the upcoming career fair. We also would like to invite companies to join our flourishing community so they can have access to many students who are actively seeking guidance in their job application pursuits, and hopefully help them and spot budding talents early.
