Inspiration

TakeOff was inspired by our groups shared passion to travel and the desire to explore more of the world. The inspiration was initially struck when we came across an eco-friendly travel planner. We, as a group believe in the importance of travel for personal growth and mental well-being. This believe is especially crucial for students and younger individuals who can benefit greatly from exposing themselves to new places, cultures, and languages. Our app is designed to empower users to create unique experiences and fun, long-lasting memories.

What it does

The app allows users to build their own profile and include their travel interests, such as what activities they like to do, places they want to visit, what their spending budget is, and what dates they are looking to travel. Based on these interests, the app matches users with other solo travelers.

How we built it

We built the app using React Native, a framework that uses a Javascript library and allows for apps primarily compatible with mobile phones such as IOS or Android users. We mainly ran the code through emulators on both IOS using Expo and Android Studios.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into were the process of matching users based on their interests. Navigation and them coordination was particularly tricky as well.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the way we all learned how to work with a framework that was new to all of us and work on it together. We also were proud of the way we were able to work together online.

What we learned

We learned how to work with React Native, how to efficiently share code on Github, and plan and execute the front-end development of a mobile app!

What's next for TakeOff

We hope to develop the back-end of the app, including the actual matching process for users. Additionally, some other features we hope to develop for TakeOff are allowing users to find matches based on which travel interest they prioritize. If a user believes that their spending limit should match that of their travel buddy's, then they can choose for their matches to be produced given that priority.
