Inspiration

Certainly! Our web app is a cheeky nod to the single developers among us who, while swimming in the sea of singleness, crafted a brilliant solution to the age-old dilemma: "What do we do on our date?" Powered by our own need for spontaneity (and maybe a touch of our wishful thinking), we created a web app that churns out randomized, yet thrilling date plans.

Here's the giggle-worthy truth: It started as a fun project, spurred by our collective singlehood and the irony that even those of us with partners were spending more time planning than actually dating. The spark? A teammate's tale of meticulously planning dates that fell through. We thought, "Why not inject some surprise and save some time?"

What it does

What does this delightful digital cupid do? It mixes up a cocktail of random activities and eateries, catering to your chosen cuisine. Like a good mystery novel, if the first chapter intrigues you, you flip the page. Similarly, if our suggestion tickles your fancy, you proceed to handpick locations from a curated list, sorted by the infallible Google Places API, complete with ratings and enticing images.

The cherry on top? Hit the 'Create Date Plan' button, and voilà, you get a start-to-finish itinerary. Whether you're flying solo, hanging with pals, or planning for your significant other, this app is your ticket to an effortless adventure. Who knew being single could lead to creating the ultimate date night wizard?

How we built it

With a sprinkle of creativity and a whole lot of coding, we stirred together Google Places API for the scoop on the hottest spots, OpenAI for that splash of personalization, and the dynamic duo of Node.js and React for the seamless, interactive web app experience. It was a marathon of keystrokes, fueled by the kind of stress that only deadline-driven inspiration can provide, alongside a copious amount of energy drinks and pizza-fueled late nights. The result? A date-planning platform that's ready to roll out the red carpet for your next adventure.

Challenges we ran into

The road to love is never easy, and neither is integrating cutting-edge APIs! We tangoed with OpenAI, coaxing it to play nice with our frontend, which was a dance of patience and precision. Then, there was the Google Cloud Console; oh, what a maze! Setting up OAuth credentials felt like navigating the labyrinth of love, and getting acquainted with the Google Places API was like learning a new love language. But, like any good romance, the struggles brought us closer to creating something beautiful.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're buzzing with pride over our fully functional app, a testament to our synergistic teamwork. For many, it was a baptism by fire—their first hackathon—yet the fun and camaraderie never dipped. We not only learned to navigate the tech world's twists and turns but also how to do it with a collective spirit and a smile. Our coordination was like a well-orchestrated symphony—every note hit just right, culminating in an app that's ready to take the dating world by storm!
