Inspiration
The originally concept was going to be inspired by "Bad Piggies" by Rovio, but it turns out the building part was a bit too ambitious to fit in the timeframe (at least for the current skillset)
What it does
There is a rocket on the screen. The objective is simple; send the rocket high up by clicking on it, but you must maintain a consistent speed without crashing.
How we built it
We used Godot and GDScript to make this system work. Built on Sprites, Rigidbodies and Buttons, all in 2D
Challenges we ran into
Because we hadn't prepared for Godot prior to attending the hackathon, it was very difficult to figure out the syntax that wasn't much like native/already known programming languages (luau or python).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're still proud to have had a working prototype by the end of this.
What we learned
Learned basic GDScript Syntax
What's next for Take to the Skies
Possibly adding more stages and more mechanics (such as dynamic movement or enemies)
Built With
- gdscript
- godot
