Inspiration

As programmers, it is easy to spend extended amounts of time focused on coding our projects. With such extensive time focused on working, we can forget to take a break and include some movement into our routine. Thus, we decided to create a website that anyone can use to set reminders for taking a break and doing a quick exercise.

What it does

The application is specifically designed to assist users in adopting healthier lifestyle habits by keeping track of their physical activity breaks. Upon initiating the app, users can conveniently set a timer for their exercise intervals. Moreover, as an added incentive, the app is equipped with a music feature that automatically plays once the timer reaches zero, while also randomly selecting a specific exercise for the user to perform.

How we built it

We used HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

Challenges we ran into

It was all of our first hackathon and we had little to no experience with HTML or Javascript, so learning how to work with those languages was one of the most prominent challenges we ran into.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to finish this project in time. The randomization and numerous functions connected to the timer were a challenge we were proud to overcome.

What we learned

We all learned about combining Javascript with HTML. We also learned about embedding audio files and formatting a webpage in order to achieve a user friendly appearance and function.

What's next for Take a Paws

Ideally, Take a Paws could be connected to a user’s playlist in order to play the user’s songs when it is time to exercise. Including a timer for the time spent exercising would help the user keep track of their physical activity as well as when they need to get back to their work or other activities.
