Inspiration
TailorPal is a digital assistant designed specifically for Nigerian tailors and fashion entrepreneurs. It streamlines business operations by providing smart customer management, precise measurement tracking, and intuitive order management in one elegant platform. With TailorPal, tailors can effortlessly manage customer profiles, track measurements, monitor order progress, and handle payments - all while working offline when needed. The app transforms traditional paper-based tailoring businesses into efficient digital operations, helping Nigerian fashion professionals save time, reduce errors, and deliver exceptional service to their customers.
🧵 What It Does
TailorPal is a web-based assistant built specifically for Nigerian tailors and fashion designers. It helps them digitally manage customer profiles, take accurate style-specific measurements, record sewing orders, track payments, and get notified before due dates — all in one clean and intuitive platform. It eliminates the need for notebooks and manual tracking, transforming traditional tailoring into smart, efficient workflows.
🛠️ How We Built It
We built TailorPal using:
- ReactJS (JavaScript) for the frontend
- Tailwind CSS for responsive UI design
- Firebase for authentication, Firestore database, and image storage
- Redux Toolkit for state management
- Bolt AI to help scaffold components and layouts faster
- Figma-inspired layouts for modern, mobile-first design
We structured data in Firebase such that each tailor (user) has their own shop, with customers and orders stored under their specific user ID, ensuring data privacy and personalized access.
🚧 Challenges We Ran Into
- Designing a flexible measurement form that changes based on gender and outfit type (e.g., Boubou, Kaftan, Trousers)
- Structuring Firebase to support nested collections for customers and their individual orders
- Ensuring that image uploads (for style references) work seamlessly and don’t interrupt form submission
- Managing dynamic state cleanly with Redux while keeping the UI responsive and easy to use
- Balancing simplicity and power — building something non-technical users can use daily without training
🏆 Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
- Creating a dynamic, real-world solution inspired by a true problem faced by tailors in Nigeria
- Successfully designing a measurement system that tailors actually understand and relate to
- Building a clean, mobile-friendly experience that replaces physical notebooks
- Setting up a scalable Firebase structure that supports multiple users, each with private data
- Making the app modular and future-ready for advanced features like SMS alerts and income tracking
📚 What We Learned
- The importance of talking to users first — this entire app was inspired by feedback from my brother, a fashion designer
- How to structure Firebase for multi-tenant apps with secure access
- Best practices in Redux Toolkit for managing complex forms and user state
- How to combine UX simplicity with technical logic (especially with dynamic measurement fields)
- Leveraging AI tools like Bolt AI to speed up prototyping and iteration
🚀 What's Next for TailorPal
- Add push notifications and SMS alerts for due orders using Firebase Cloud Functions and APIs like Africa’s Talking
- Introduce order status tracking (e.g., Pending, In Progress, Completed)
- Enable income and performance reports for tailors (monthly/yearly breakdowns)
- Support offline-first functionality for tailors in low-connectivity areas
- Launch a freemium pricing model with premium features for professional tailors
- Eventually develop a mobile app version for Android
