Inspiration

My personal struggle as well as the struggle of fellow generalists, in addition to the general struggles faced by millions of laid-off people in the recent years.

Being generalists, as opposed to the average joe who is a specialist, we typically have diverse careers spanning multiple functions and experiences, which is hard to present in a meaningful way to the traditional recruiter, since they expect a typical linear specialist CV that stays focused to the JD. This necessitates a reformat of the generalist CV for each JD, but doing so for 100s of different jobs everday, is a major pain / impossible task.

For the average person, its still important to tailor a CV to the job they are applying to, to make it easier for the recruiter to find the important points that could increase their chances for jobhunt success. Again, doing so for 100s of jobs everyday is an impossible task for the millions of people looking for a job.

What it does

Takes data from your CV and any additional typed paragraphs regarding your professional experiences, and creates a new tailored CV for each job description. Also writes a draft cover letter, which can be further polished as needed.

How we built it

Built within Coda itself. A table in coda with AI blocks and coloumns referencing the relevant data.

Challenges we ran into

Prompting the AI to achieve the output and quality consistently. It sometimes even fails to deliver a CV entirely.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

When it works, its a huge timesaver and speeds up the painful process of job applications.

What we learned

The flexibility and power of AI in Coda.

What's next for TailoredCV

I will add an external browser extension to make it easier to import the JD directly from the websites, using Coda API.
