Inspiration

Tourists typically look for genuine souvenirs that capture the local culture when visiting new destinations. Visitors might find it challenging to identify objects in a location that have Geographical Indication (GI) tags, which results in missed opportunities to support local economies and carry home distinctive things of high cultural value. Tourist information centers are a valuable resource for visitors, offering details on local attractions, accommodations, maps, and other relevant information. However, they may not always provide specific information regarding the Geographical Indication (GI) tags associated with the area. Similarly, even locals may not be aware of the GI tags pertaining to their region. There is a need for a mobile app targeted towards tourists that leverages real-time location data to guide users toward locating and buying GI-tagged things while on vacation.

What it does

This app will leverage the real-time location of users who have provided their permission. By comparing the user's location with a dataset of GI tags, the app will promptly detect when the user is within a 1 km radius of a particular area. Upon meeting this condition, the app will generate and send an alert to the user, notifying them about the GI tags of that area.

How we built it

We used the Swift Languageand the simulator provided by Apple - Xcode.

Challenges we ran into

Collecting the data- specifically the coordinates. Getting real-time location and comparing it with all items in database. Also connecting Swift with MySQL was a learning experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully creating this app was a proud achievement for us as a team.

What we learned

Coordination as a team and using each others strengths to overcome the challenge

What's next for TagTrove

Improving it by connecting with local market and vendors, also marketing it to the public.
