Inspiration
We were inspired by popular online resale websites like Depop and Facebook Marketplace. What is unique about our product is that we created a clothing website dedicated solely to drop offs and pick ups in order to eliminate the time and work spent shipping. We believe our website would excel in cities and college towns, where residents would easily be able to meet and buy clothes. As college students ourselves, we have often found ourselves in need of a formal dress, professional clothing, and event-specific attire. This website would make it easy for college students to post clothes they no longer need or only needed once, and allow students to meet and buy clothes fast. We also wanted to address the environmental issues with fast fashion as well as shipping costs. This website does that by promoting pick-up and drop-off, as well as buying second-hand clothing.
What it does
The website acts as a marketplace for people to post their clothing items, message each other, and meet up. We wanted to combine popular marketplaces like Depop and Facebook Marketplace to create a pickup-only second-hand clothing website aimed at helping people in cities and college-towns.
How we built it
We built this website using HTML and CSS on Neocities.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a challenge of time. As Katie was part of the Hackathon organization team, it limited her ability to implement the user interface. Additionally, since Abby was more focused on the ideation (as a non-coder), it was difficult to implement all the features we wanted to.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the front-end graphics we created in such a short time, as well as a demo for the feature we want to implement in the future. We are glad that we have our ideas and hope to put them to code soon.
What we learned
We learned that creating a website is not a one-time task. It requires APIs and other tools that are not just static and aesthetically pleasing.
What's next for Tag
In the future, we want to implement the back-end of the website. We hope to use Google API to create maps to locate users, allow users to create profiles, sell items, and message each other. We are very excited and will continue implementing the rest of Tag so that it is functional.
