Tachyon

Inspiration

To make a browser for students by students that solves many issues in the design of the UI and UX of a browser and improves on it to save time when working on tasks such as homework or studying.

What it does

Organizes tabs into groups called tasks for easy recall and sorting. Converts units in browser with a right click. Provides ability to use special home pages with links curated by the user to minimize distractions when starting tasks for specific subjects. Has a focus mode that uses the pomodoro timer productivity method. Has many other features such as a better UI with commonly used tools for different subjects accessible in the top right.

How we built it

Modified an open source node js browser to add the features and change its UI to what we wanted.

Challenges we ran into

Bugs in the older version of nodejs the browser we are using runs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Changing the UI of a complex browser to add new elements and making a system that can convert many different units without issue.

What we learned

Node js has many issues and many new changes to node js have solved some of these issues. Grunt helps manage large projects.

What's next for Tachyon

Adding more clipboard functionality, adding more modes for different subjects, adding a page for the user to customize the homepage, and adding interactivity between static pages we made like the homepage and the browser ui.
