Inspiration
This past week at MLH Global Hack Week, everyone was talking about these Solana tokens, and I got curious. The idea that anyone could create their own token to power their project or community was mind-blowing to me.
What it does
For this project, I focused on successfully creating a token on the Solana Devnet, and interacting with the blockchain.
How I built it
I'm new to this whole Web3 thing, so I didn't exactly build a whole app or anything crazy. But what I DID do was follow this awesome guide by Solana (https://solana.com/developers/guides/getstarted/how-to-create-a-token) and I created my very own token on the Solana Devnet.
Using the Solana CLI and SPL Token Extensions (don't ask me what that means yet ), I talked to the blockchain and made my token dream a reality. I started learning Rust for this, but it turned out that it didn't require any code. I did host my token metadata on GitHub, but everything else was done via CLI.
Challenges I ran into
There were definitely some moments where my brain felt like it was about to explode. SPL tokens, metadata extensions, the minting process – all these new things to wrap my head around. But hey, that's what hackathons are for! With each hurdle I jumped, I felt like a total Web3 rockstar.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I CREATED A TOKEN on the Solana Devnet! Seriously, how cool is that?
What I learned
Sometimes, the best way to learn is by doing. Jumping right in and creating my own token was way more effective than just reading about it.
What's next?
The future of Web3 is wide open, and thanks to MLH Global Hack Week, I feel ready to jump right in. Sure, I might be a beginner now, but watch out world – this Web3 newbie is here to learn, build, and create something awesome with Solana tokens! Stay tuned!
