Inspiration
We are both new to hackathons so the inspiration was mainly just the excitement of trying something new!
What it does
Our extension has 3 main functions. The first is a passive timed color cue which changes tab colors after a certain amount to indicate they’ve been open too long. The second is an active timed prompt popup which asks the user to organize a tab that has been open for a certain amount of time. The third is a linking tool that allows users to link individual tabs as they open new ones to maintain a consistent research stream.
How we built it
We built the project using Figma and Python.
Challenges we ran into
Never use tkinter to create GUI before, so we need to look up a lot. We needed to make sure the Python program worked on both Windows and Mac and since one of the team members had no coding experience, walking them through all the tools took some time. Only one team member was familiar with Figma and both had to go over the basics as a refresher.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how much we got done with only 2 of us, considering that we are new, we have little experience, and have little overlapping skill sets. We managed to work well together and have a cohesive project.
What we learned
Maya learned a bit about the setup for Python, and all the extra packages and downloads it requires to work. She also learned how to prototype in Figma. Vinsen learned how to use tkinter to create basic up through watching youtube tutorials and learned basics to use figma to create a basic page.
What's next for Tabs Timed Manager
Further developing the code and product branding.
