Tably

Tably helps users organize, save, and share browser tabs in a simple, elegant way. It turns the chaos of having too many open tabs into an organized, collaborative workspace that feels calm and productive.

Inspiration

Tably was inspired by the need for a better way to manage digital clutter. Most tab managers are either too complex or too mechanical, so we set out to build something that feels natural and minimal.

The idea came from a simple observation: people don’t just want to organize their tabs — they want to feel in control of their browsing. Tably was created to make productivity personal, clear, and effortless.

What it does

Tably is a Chrome extension that helps users:

  • Group and organize tabs by topic or domain
  • Save and reopen browser sessions easily
  • Share sets of tabs through a single link
  • Switch between different visual themes
  • Focus by hiding distracting tabs
  • Receive light motivational prompts to stay consistent

It transforms your browser into a clean workspace for study, research, or creative work.

How I built it

Frontend Built with HTML for flexibility and CSS for responsive, minimal styling.

Backend Firebase manages authentication, cloud storage, and optional real-time sync for shared sessions.

Browser Integration Chrome Tabs and Storage APIs allow Tably to manage, save, and restore tab data efficiently.

Version Control GitHub is used for collaboration, version management, and open-source contributions.

Challenges we ran into

Building an experience that feels lightweight but powerful was the main challenge. Managing real-time browser data across multiple Chrome windows and ensuring stable performance with many open tabs required careful optimization.

Balancing design simplicity with functional depth also tested our approach — every feature had to feel intentional and intuitive.

Also, having a Macbook Pro intel 2017 definitely limited my development, as well as the AI capabilities on my end, hopefully for others it is way better, some of my dev friends have tested it out and found it to be fairly good at managing their tabs, they have reported back better productivity and aesthetics of their workspace environment on chrome while performing work/surfing or just studying

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Delivering a fully working MVP that reduces tab overload
  • Designing a clean, distraction-free interface
  • Making session sharing simple and reliable
  • Adding a subtle personality layer that makes productivity more enjoyable

What we learned

We learned how to integrate Chrome APIs effectively with modern web frameworks. We saw how user experience and emotional design play a crucial role in productivity software. We also learned that collaboration features help transform a personal tool into something that fosters teamwork and community.

What's next for Tably

  • Real-time shared workspaces for teams and collaborators
  • AI-powered tab summaries and smart organization
  • Public tab collections for sharing and discovery
  • A mobile companion app for managing sessions anywhere
  • Premium plans with personalization, analytics, and cloud sync
