Inspiration

  • We were inspired to create an accountability app because we found that as college students, it was difficult to work on our goals and habits with so much going on in our lives. This was a way to help keep people on track, no matter how busy they get.

What it does

  • Tabit is a mobile application that helps you track your goals and habits. With a user friendly, clean design and friend accountability feature, reaching your goals has never been easier and more supportive.

How we built it

  • For the design, we sketched out lo-fi wireframes with the traditional pencil and paper. We then used Figma to create med-fi wireframes, displaying a more coherent vision of the features within the application. Finally, we created hi-fi wireframes using the same platform, and then continuously updated and altered parts of the design while coding, to ensure we had a cohesive, intuitive user interface.
  • For the development of the app, we had never used React Native before. Getting started with the project was a race between writing one line of code and referring back to the documentation to rewrite that line. After about 4 hours in, we finally were accustomed to the development patterns of React Native integrated with Redux and were able to implement our Figma design. Unfortunately, we did not get to wire this app up to a backend.

Challenges we ran into

  • One of the biggest challenges we ran into was limited time. With design taking up a big chunk of time initially, the coding portion was delayed and resulted in staying up throughout the night to have some sort of deliverable by the deadline. Additionally, the lack of time deterred us from coding all the features we included in the design.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • With the CruzHacks hackathon being one of the team member’s first participations in a hackathon, helping develop a prototype of a product was an accomplishment within itself. Even more so, attempting to do that within such a short time frame revealed to both of us our determination to create something, no matter the outcome. Accomplishing so much in so little time was our great success.

What we learned

  • One of the few things we learned was that mild preparation for the hackathon would have been very helpful, whether that be detailed brainstorming or writing out a schedule to stay on track by the deadline. Another is that simplicity is key. With the design, we initially bit off more than we could chew, causing us to lag behind a but when it came to implementing those designs/ features.

What's next for Tabit

  • Although we believe Tabit has great potential for a real-world application, we enjoyed creating it simply for the purpose of this hackathon. However, we may decide to work on it in more detail down the line to create a more functional, aesthetically pleasing prototype.

Built With

  • We used Figma, React Native/Expo with Redux
