Inspiration
The inspiration behind Tabby came from the observation of rampant overconsumption during holidays, leading to financial strain and environmental impact. We wanted to create a tool that promotes mindful spending and sustainable choices. The name Tabby comes from the species of cat, which we decided suits our product because of the giving nature of outdoor tabby cats to their owners - hence, putting an emphasis on community.
What it does
Tabby is a comprehensive app designed to help users track their gift purchases, plan holiday meals, and receive personalized recommendations for eco-friendly alternatives. It provides insights from demographic data to enhance user experience and encourage responsible consumption.
How we built it
We built Tabby using a combination of frontend and backend technologies. The frontend was developed using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, while the data graphs was powered by Python.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges we faced was learning to use Figma for UI/UX design, mastering JavaScript for dynamic frontend interactions, and becoming proficient in HTML/CSS for building responsive and visually appealing interfaces. Overcoming these challenges required dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to learn new skills.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of learning the methods of creating a web app that addresses a pressing societal issue. Tabby not only helps users manage their finances and consumption habits but also contributes to environmental sustainability. We're also proud of our perseverance and determination as a two-person group.
What we learned
Through the development of Tabby, we gained valuable experience in frontend and backend development, data analytics, and user experience design. We learned how to leverage demographic data to create personalized user experiences and gained insights into the complexities of promoting sustainable behavior.
What's next for Tabby
In the future, we plan to expand Tabby's features and capabilities. This includes adding our recommendation engine, integrating additional data sources for enhanced insights such as stocks, and expanding our user base and demographic areas. We also aim to collaborate with environmental organizations and retailers to promote sustainable consumption practices on a larger scale.
