Inspiration

21 hours and 59 minutes ago, four friends from uWaterloo brought forth, upon this continent, conceived with caffeine and dedicated to the proposition that 'none shall split bills manually again'.

What it does

The principal purpose of this app is to help split bills between friends and family. The application is able to keep track of the amount and to whom money is owed to, as well as the money owed to the user by his/her friends.

How I built it

This app was created using Android Studio and third-party APIs such as Firebase and Cloud Vision.

Challenges I ran into

It was not easy to integrate payment services to allow for seamless in-app transfer of money. Furthermore, when performing OCR on the receipts, it was difficult to separate different items on the list and find their correlated prices.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We were able to perform low-level OCR which allowed us to determine the total value of the receipt.

What I learned

Don't use SQL for Android.

What's next for Tabb

We will continue to work on improving existing features of the app and introducing new ones to make the service better. This includes implementing mobile payment services using Stripe or Paypal and a database to track authentication, SMS authentication for added security, and prettier graphics for popup menus.
