Tab Sniper

Inspiration

We were inspired to make this because we have experienced firsthand how procrastination can hinder personal development and mental health.

What it does

Our extension allows the user to specify sites that they want to keep themselves from accessing. Once they start focus mode, they will be unable to disable the extension until the timer runs out. If they attempt to do so before time is up, the user is prompted to play through a relatively difficult game before disabling.

How we built it

We started our project with simple frameworks for adding the extension using JavaScript and HTML. After, we branched out into working on the UI/UX, and other engaging features.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered errors while working on Git, as merging our branches proved to be difficult when we were trying to avoid overwriting each others' code.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Throughout this project, we have reinforced a strong foundation in Git workflow technologies, which will aid us in the future when we work on collaborative coding projects.

What we learned

We learned not to underestimate the time it takes to complete tasks, no matter how simple they seem in theory. We have understood the importance of having backup plans in case something does not work out the way we want it to.

What's next for Tab Sniper

For the future, we want to further develop the games that the user is prompted to complete in the event that they want to disable the site blocker before time is up. Additionally, we want to add a user data tracking feature that displays information that will motivate the user to continue using our extension.
