Inspiration

In college, there are many clear opportunities for students to engage in activities or groups. There are events like GobblerFest that connect students to clubs they might be interested in and websites like GobblerConnect provide students an overview of all clubs and events going on at Virginia Tech. However, in the greater outside world, there are little to no resources like this that provide people with what they may need to engage in meaningful activities outside of work. T0geth3R aims to solve that problem.

What it does

T0geth3R is a mobile application that allows users the opportunity to find groups and events near them. Once the user signs up and selects their interests, they are provided a map of their general location. This map displays nearby events from Poker Nights to Yoga Meetups to Book Clubs to Parties. Each event has a group attached to it, so users will be able to not just connect one time, but repeatedly attend events hosted by groups they like.

How we built it

During the Design and Ideation phase of development, we heavily relied upon Figma for developing our User Interface. Figma's intricate development tools allowed us to create fully functional User Interfaces that comply with the standards an application like ours will be held to.

For the next stage of development, we translated our Figma designs into a React-Native project that can run as both a Web and Mobile Application.

Challenges we ran into

We were comfortable with the ideation process, but struggled with translating those concepts into React components. To help with this process, we utilized vibe-coding, gaining valuable knowledge on how to develop React Native projects for the future.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are especially proud of our designs. As a team, we got together and spent hours pouring over every detail and making sure that any user can seemlessy transition to whichever page of the application they wish to go to.

What we learned

Many of us within the group were not familiar with Figma, so this project gave us a great excuse to learn the many tools Figma provides. For example, we utilized Figma AI to develop Frames that we then complimented with our unique design decisions to create a seamless User Interface.

What's next for T0geth3R

Going forward, there are a variety of ways we can improve T0geth3R to make it a stronger application. A great start would be to complete our React-Native implementation. There are some aspects that we could not fully translate into our final project, like input verification, a local map display, and certain setting options like dark mode. These features would greatly enhance the final product when implemented.
