Inspiration
The current way regarding food waste is not sustainable - 1/3rd of the world’s food production gets wasted. At the same time, there are many hungry and homeless people. Many people would like to help, but there is no comfortable, widespread solution.
What it does
We created a platform for bringing the community together in order to reduce the food waste and hunger situation. On TomNom, restaurants or shops can sell leftover ingredients at a discounted price or give it for free for the people in need. Besides that, the restaurants participating in TomNom social movement get a label and ranking for being a socially conscious business. Community conscious people are empowered to make a difference by choosing the restaurants based on the TomNom label and ranking of the business.
How we built it
TomNom is a web application based on TomTom’s geolocation API’s. We built the frontend with Vue.js and back end API with Node.js and NestJS. We are using the PostgreSQL database.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge is still ahead - to get the community onboard.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are really proud of our MVP and team work.
What we learned
We got experience in creating a startup and developing our skills with the Vue.js framework.
What's next for TomNom
TomNom needs a user base - we need to advertise and find the businesses, sponsors, individuals and possibly government to start creating a change.
