Inspiration
THOR (The Hand Book of Open-source Repositories) is a website that provides world-class guidance on open-source contributions. This is very near and dear to my heart. Ever since I was 18 years old in 2019, I watched my friend get selected for G-soc. I struggled to understand how to go about it and I was always wishing I had a medium that would provide a very clear understanding of how to go about open-source. This buggled my mind for 7 years, until I finally sat down to build a website to help other people in the future that would want to understand open-source and how to go about it.
What it does
It provides an extensive documentation on how to contribute to open-source.
How we built it
I used Next.js, React.js and mdx. I collaborated with a good friend, to make it very accessible to everyone, reducing the barrier of entry to open-source.
Challenges we ran into
Struggled to integrate mdx (which is a markdown plugin) into Next.js. I struggled to do OAuth with GitHub.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am so happy that this project will potentially lower the barrier of entry to everyone that is geniunely curious about open-source.
What we learned
I used Next.js for the first time and in the process of building this project, it really de-mystifyed Next.js for me.
What's next for T.H.O.R (The Handbook of Open-source Repositories)
Hopefully, future collaborators can add more pages and guidelines, for now I have moved on to other things.
