Inspiration
Growing up from age 18 onwards, I struggled to understand what open-source contribution is about and how to go about it, so now that I am 24 years old and a web developer, I decided to create a website that a younger me would have found very insightful and helpful. The website covers everything about open-source especially frequently asked questions that I never had anyone to ask.
What it does
It is an in-depth guide for anyone seeking knowledge about how to contribute to open-source software; it provides guides, tutorials, questions and answers on everything about open-source.
How we built it
I worked closely with a friend to build it. We used Next.js and mdx (a markdown plugin) to make the pages interactive and easy for others to come in the future to contribute to my website.
Challenges we ran into
I really struggled trying to create the navbar that utilised file-based navigation, especially when we had nested files.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This project will serve as a guide to future generations on how to contribute to open-source this makes me so very happy.
What we learned
I learned how to create a sidebar that utilises file-based routing.
What's next for T.H.O.R (The Handbook of Open-source Repositories)
Hopefully future contributors can expand the website to become a fully-fleged platform for learning, adding quizes and test environments for people to get hands-on with open-source contributions.
