Inspiration
College life is full of fragmented systems—one platform for grades, another for communication, another for events. Students miss updates, faculty struggle to reach them, and campus engagement suffers. We wanted to create a single, modern hub that keeps everyone connected and informed.
What it does
Sysya brings students and faculty together in one unified app. It offers GPA tracking, student–faculty messaging, campus event announcements, and a student-to-student classified marketplace. Everything students need for academic and campus life lives in one simple, intuitive platform.
How we built it
We designed Sysya with a mobile-first approach, using React Native for the app, Node.js for backend APIs, and a secure database for student profiles and academic data. Our focus was on clean UI, reliable notifications, and seamless integration between modules.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was consolidating diverse features—academic data, communication, and classifieds—into one smooth workflow without overwhelming the user. Ensuring data security and building real-time messaging also required careful architecture and testing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a fully functional prototype that elegantly solves real student pain points. The UI is clean, the GPA engine works accurately, messaging flows smoothly, and early testers said it felt like an app they’d actually use on campus.
What we learned
We learned how critical simplicity and clarity are when building multi-feature apps. We also gained experience with real-time communication, secure data handling, and designing for fast-paced student use cases.
What's next for Sysya
We plan to expand Sysya with push notifications, faculty dashboards, AI-powered study helpers, and integration with existing college systems. The long-term goal is to partner with colleges and make Sysya the central platform for campus communication and engagement.
