Inspiration
I was inspired by the idea that a simulation doesn’t have to be a prison but a refuge. A person can choose to stay in a world made of their own feelings and memories
What it does
Is a poetic film about realization and acceptance. A girl (or AI?) discovers that her world is a simulation woven from her emotions, memories, and fragments of consciousness
How we built it
Challenges we ran into
I went deep into the music process: first creating my own musical patterns, then making covers and remixes based on them. After that, I built new remixes on top of those covers, forming a multi-layered sonic structure. This whole cycle — “pattern → cover → remix → new remix” — became the most demanding and experimental part of the project
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m proud that the project resonated quickly across several festivals. It received multiple nominations in New York and was showcased at the Shanghai International Film Festival — something that genuinely means a lot to me
What we learned
I learned how to use AI visuals more precisely to convey soft emotions and gained a deeper understanding of “flow-based” films
What's next for Synthetic Void
I plan to keep exploring artificial consciousness and poetic simulations — possibly creating a cycle of short films about realities people choose to stay in
