Synthetic Memory — Reflection
Inspiration
This project was inspired by the idea of translating a feeling — not a concept — into visual form.
I wanted to create a film that lets the viewer interpret the meaning on their own.
Rather than explaining what it’s about, I focused on mood, tone, and how subtle changes in light, motion, and expression can communicate emotion without words.
Process
The short film was built using Kling AI and Luma Labs, combining static image generation with motion extension and cinematic transitions.
Every scene was developed frame by frame through detailed prompting, describing lighting direction, camera movement, and emotional atmosphere in extreme detail.
I treated each AI model like part of a film crew — one handling lighting and camera, another handling animation flow — and guided them to achieve the look and rhythm I envisioned.
What I Learned
I learned how much directing AI feels like directing real actors or cinematographers — the communication has to be extremely precise.
The more specific I got with the visual language (camera distance, emotional micro-movements, pacing), the more accurately the AI could reflect the tone I wanted.
I also learned that AI is not just a generator, but a collaborator that needs direction, correction, and trust to reach a human-like emotional resonance.
Challenges
The hardest part was describing my exact vision to AI.
Many of the transitions and emotional beats depended on timing and subtlety — things that are easy to imagine but hard to express in words.
I had to refine prompts repeatedly until the framing, motion, and lighting delivered the message without explanation.
Scene cuts, especially emotional moments, required a balance between technical clarity and emotional instinct — knowing when to guide and when to let the AI interpret.
Even though it took many iterations, the process taught me how to think like both a filmmaker and a translator — turning inner vision into external form through collaboration with machines.
