Inspiration

Our inspiration for Synthesis Your Mind was that mental health is a very prominent topic amongst the first generation community of what we had to specifically face as a strong community. We wanted to develop an app that would allow anyone who wants to improve in their mental health or self improvement journey that they could collaborate.

What it does

Synthesis Your Mind is an app that rewards people looking after themselves with a digital plant. Not everyone has the ability to have a real plant, either from money, room or not kind parents/guardians. Assuming they can access a mobile device (phones, tablets or iPads), they can download Synthesis Your Mind.

Synthesis Your Mind will give you Daily Wins you should do every single day. By doing them every day you can check them off and gain rewards that let you grow your plant. Allowing the user to grow their own plant and, once they finish, grow another and another without actually taking up physical space, being free to use, and having the ability to keep track of their progress should all motivate them to have solid mental health with only needing a mobile device.

Allowing friends to check your Daily Wins and remind you about them allows people to stay in touch with each other and help them through difficult times.

When you finish growing a plant, it gets planted in the background and you plant a seed of a new one. By doing this, you will slowly create your own garden. So not only will you feel much better when you look after your own mental health, you will see the improvement by how many plants you have on the app.

The AI implemented also allows to create realistic goals based on the past performances and the time they have been completed, this allows individuals who are using the app they can complete realistic goals given by the AI.

How we built it

It started out as drawing on paper, drawing ideas to keep the user in the app trying to keep their mental health on track. As we came to the plant idea, we drew more on how the plant would look at different stages. Like it starts as a seed, and the more Daily Wins you get, the more it grows. With the ideas down, we went to Canva, Google Docs and Adobe Illustrator. We used Google Docs to write our ideas, answer questions and explain how the app would work. We used Adobe Illustrator for concept images, but when we switched who was designing the app, we also switched to Canva because they didn’t have access to Adobe and were more familiar with Canva. Sadly, not a single line of code has been written for the app; however, before any code can be written, an idea needs to be created.

Challenges we ran into

A challenge we ran into was figuring out how to make the user not give up and delete the app. Mental health can be challenging to heal and keep strong during difficult times. To motivate the user to continue to use the app and keep trying to keep their mental health strong, we made the app around growing a plant. The original idea was to build and keep a city running, but we changed it to growing plants and slowly making a garden because plants can be a symbol of health and life.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we had designed and planned a complex app. We are also very proud of a really good idea of how

What we learned

We’ve learnt how to design and organise how each page would work and how the user might interact with it.

What's next for Synthesis Your Mind

The future is Synthesis your Mind would be to turn the concept of the app into a fully functional app that anyone can download and start using.
