Inspiration - Me and my team had visited a school for blind children and we wanted to make their life a bit easier and things more accessible because not everything can be written in Braille.
What it does - It recognizes text from the webcam and converts it to speech.
How we built it - Using Python, Tesseract & OCR libraries , pyttsx3 for text to speech converter
Challenges we ran into - Being our first hackathon, we were having a hard time trying to figure out how to bring different components together. Installing tesseract was also a hassle.
Accomplishments that we're proud of - We were very happy when the webcam launched after a lot of trial and error.
What we learned - We learnt how to use different libraries and modules and navigating GitHub
What's next for VisionAssist- Team51 - Making the text recognition more accurate and polishing the GUI.
