Inspiration
I wanted to build a puzzle game that’s easy to pick up and play for a wide audience, something in the spirit of Wordle. That’s how Synoche was born: a word-guessing game based on associations.
What it does
Synoche (Συνοχή in Greek) means cohesion or association. In the game, your goal is to complete a word chain by guessing each word in sequence. Every word is logically connected to the one before it.
For example:
FIRE ➡️ TRUCK ➡️ BED ➡️ BUG (Fire truck, Truck Bed, Bed Bug)
CLASS ➡️ ROOM ➡️ MATE (Classroom, Roommate)
The app also features an editor, which allows players to build their own chains and publish them for others to play!
How we built it
I used Devvit with React Webviews inside Bolt to built Synoche. Styling is done with TailwindCSS.
Challenges we ran into
Since I was guiding Bolt’s LLM to implement features, debugging was a bit unconventional. Sometimes I had to describe the bug multiple times before it got fixed. Other times, I had to provide code snippets from similar projects to help steer the model. Still, features were implemented quickly and painlessly overall, and working with Bolt felt smooth.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm really happy with how closely the final result matches my original idea. UI design is usually a weak point for me, but I think this one turned out clean and polished. The overall experience feels snappy and satisfying to use.
What we learned
I joined this hackathon mostly out of curiosity; I wanted to see what agentic coding with LLMs was really like. I picked a small-scope project because I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was honestly surprised by how quickly things came together. I had a working MVP in about 20 minutes. Sure, there was still plenty of work after that, but the development process was smooth and fun. Looking back, I probably could’ve gone for a more complex project, but I’m happy with how this one turned out.
What's next for Synoche
Now it’s time to see if people actually enjoy playing it! I’ll be making some levels myself, but I’m especially looking forward to seeing what kinds of puzzles other players come up with. Solving your own puzzles isn’t much fun 😅
